After a recent success through the Small Claims Court process I discovered that sending mail Recorded Delivery, does not necessarily mean that the addressee has to accept delivery. The dealer in question had refused to sign for delivery. This explains why I did not get a single reply to any of my letters. Royal Mail had to open all my correspondence to find my address and then return the letters which obviously caused some delay before I became aware the returned letters had not been read. It was only when the dealer received notification from the Court that there was any response. Fortunately my claim was successful and my money refunded in full.

Makes sense.

Important to always go online and check a day or two after you sent your mail. This will tell you whether it was in fact delivered, and if it was, print of the confirmation, and the signiture (if available).

I work for Royal Mail and i often have Recorded letter's where the person will not sign for it and we can't force them to sign! We then return it to the office. I would always say put on the back of the item your house number and Postcode, this will mean you get the letter returned to you much faster.

Thanks for that, just what I now do. Hope this alerts others who thought otherwise.
