My lease car comes up for replacement in a couple of months. I'm looking at replacements now, but the Renault dealer has told me he has NO chance of getting hold of an automatic for a test drive.
I only have an auto licence, and as I'm short & disabled, I really need to test drive a vehicle, to make sure I can reach/see everything comfortably before I commit to a 3 yr lease
I'm interested in the 1.5 dci auto, but any auto will do, as driving position/internal layout are more important than engine to me at this point.
I'm in the east midlands, but willing to travel a fair distance to find a car to test. Can anyone help ?
I had this problem 3 years ago when I wanted to buy a Modus Auto.
No dealer was able to supply a test drive in an auto, only a manual.
The reason ,I suspect, is that the auto has an electronic gear box which is quite different from the old CVT box and takes a lot of getting used to.
Each gear change is accompanied by a noticable lurch especially when new and you can roll back on hills when starting from a stop as with a manual gearbox so you have to use the handbrake on moving off from a stop.
It can be got used to after a while but it is off putting when you first drive the car.
The dealers obviously know that this is not a good selling point
