Mazda 6 estate ts 09 plate - Help my engine has decided to blow itself apart! - bedfordshire
On a short local drive recently my oil pressure warning light came on. Within less than a minute there was a pop and a lot of white smoke and no more engine. The oil was checked regularly with no issues. It had done just under 60,000 miles. It's an arval lease car. I missed the last service by 6000 miles due to my work schedule and Mazda are charging me £8000 for the repair as I have invalidated the warrantee. Is this acceptable? If there is a common engine fault should I have to pay as I thought the vehicle should be fit for purpose? It's not as if the car was overdue a service just late on two of the four it's had. I have not been told by the garage that my warrantee is screwed by late services until the engine blew. I have had no service type lights come on the dash to say a service is overdue. Do I have a leg to stand on?
Hope someone can help!

6000miles over the required service interval I would not have thought you had a chance.

Absolutely no chance I'm afraid. Warranties are all about "servicing in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions" and they have no liability to you and have no need to show you "Goodwill" either.

" I missed the last service by 6000 miles due to my work schedule"

If you were that busy to miss a service by 6000 miles then I guess 8K is nothing to have to pay out if work was that important! ,cheaper to just arrange a hire car for a day or two whilst a service is being carried out though.

If I had a pound for every time I have had that excuse over the counter I would have retired by now ! 6000 miles is a serious amount over! most manufactures have a 500 mile limit over.

So sadly expensive lesson, dont ber suprised if the lease company charge you for the cost to them !. I had a client go over a cam belt change by 1800 miles when it failed on a vauxhall , it was on a lease and the lease company insisted he paid the £2800 repair bill as it was his responsibility to take it in on time!

You can't realy get away with the old "fit for purpose" when the service intervals have been neglected by so much, the warranty details would be explained in your service book. I think you are very unlucky the engine only lasted 60k even with the late services, but i dont think you'll get any help.

For an non maintained lease, you can get the car serviced anywhere.

Whilst (like the rest of the posters) I have absolutely no sympathy with the OP given his "couldn't care less" attitude, presumably because the car wasn't his, I'm of the opinion that as the car is still inside 3 years & 60,000 mile (ie OEM warranty period) PROVIDING the fault was NOT due to a lack of servicing I think Mazda should fund the repair.

I guess that the leasing co haven't pursued it with Mazda (& given their buying power they easily could) as they want the "don't give a toss about their property, of a" driver to do so ..... understandably so!
