1.9d VW Polo - starting???? - lloydie

Hi John, I have a 1.9D VW Polo and its driving me mad. I have to jump start it everytime I use it . I had a new battery in June last year and have been told the battery is ok. The altenator is charging so after a 150 mile run, you would think it would be ok the next day, but its not. It turns over very slowly or fails to start at all. Please help/advise. Thanks

If it turns over fast enough to start when you jump it I would say the problem is your battery. It may be though that the added capacity of your battery + the other one is providing extra current, so it could be that your starter motor is not in good health, the only really effective way to check is to try another battery - unless something is draining your battery while its parked.

assuming you have been out in it for day after jumping it why dont you get a tester and test the battery before you leave it parked up overnight,,,then if its ok check the voltage again in the morning,if its fully charged or at least not lost any charge from the night before then probably your starter as peter suggests,,if battery has lost power then something electrical is obviously draining it,but at least doing it that way you are eliminating the starter,,,,,is it turning over ok to begin with and gradually draining because you are turning it over or is there just no life from the off?
