Audi A6 - Audi V6 Petrol Engines - A6 Series 2 1997-2004 - crossfieldballs

Hi all.

Of the five larger petrol V6 engines Audi offered for the Series 2 A6 (the 2.8 litre 30-valve V6, the 2.7 litre 30 valve turbo V6 (also found in the B5 platform S4), a 4.2 litre 40-valve V8, and later, a new 3.0 litre 30-valve V6 to replace the 2.8 and an updated version of the 2.7's turbo), do any of them have reliability problems? Which one is the best value these days do you think?

A friend ran a 2.8 litre V6 Audi A6 of that model for something like 300,000km (he bought it at around 100,000km) without any real problems. It was mostly used for long distance driving. I don't have any direct experience of those petrol engines though.

Thanks Steven, impressive. I found a 2.8. So far so good. I fear the abundant traffic lights here may prematurely end this one's life one day....!

They are pretty well built. This friend's one still felt very solid inside towards the end of the time he had it. I hope your one lasts as well as his.
