If the battery had been connected the wrong way round it would likely have done considerable damage to the electrics, the fact that no fuses have blown and some of the electrics work would indicate otherwise. It sounds as though either there is no voltage reaching the starter solonoid or its faulty. Try connecting a length of wire from the battery + to the small terminal on the starter,solonoid if it then operates you probably have an alarm or ingnition switch problem.
