Peugeot 806 1.9td 1996 - Engine still runs after switching off key - GeoITFC

I have just changed the alternator on my 806, after refitting and charging the battery I managed to get the car started [after a few alarm/immob issues!] I switched the car off ok, then restarted to ensure it would, but now it wont switch off, I have to stall it.

Anyone had similar problems? got any cures?? Seems one thing after another with my Pug, always electrical!!

Thanks

Fuel cut-off failure?

Other possibility is the engine is so worn that engine oil is getting into the combustion chambers and being burned as fuel, although I believe this often causes the engine to race until it uses up the oil and then it goes bang.

Or possibly the oil is so overfilled that the same is happening?

I wouldn't drive it until it has been seen and fixed but if it is simply running at its usual idle speed I guess a switch failure is likeliest.

I would go with the fuel solonoid, on older pumps a simple job but if yours has a keypad it means removing the pump as the solonoid is buried in armour plating. You could fit an external solonoid but it would need to be very close to the pump and very airtight - or just keep stalling it.
