Toyota Yaris - turbo fault - madras

yaris 1.6 diesel. turbo does not kick in...engine runs well but no power due to turbo.....turbo is free to turn but just does not engage..has anyone had this fault before. oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!!!!!!

There is no 1.6 diesel Yaris. It's a 1.4.

Turbo boost valve?

Split intercooler?

EGR valve needs cleaning?

If you run short distances and use cheap fule, then EGR valve removal and cleaning plus cleaing inlets may be needed. Easy DIY if you do diy.

I don't think it' the EGR - it would smoke all over the place in most cases. Split intercooler would produce a loud hissing sound. To me it sounds like either the wastegate is stuck open or the boost pressure sensor has packed up.
