These cars are looking very tempting, for around seven grand you can get a 1.4 SE model which is fully loaded. I have owned a 1996 Ibiza SDi which was largely trouble free and cheap to run, but what are the new shape ones like reliability and costs wise for a 1.4. I was considering the diesel, but the purchase price and price of diesel don't make it worth it as I only do 8000 miles a year. Another advantage is the dealer is just down the road and has won SEAT dealer of the year awards several years running.

I can't really help with a constructive reply, but I have also been thinking along the same lines as you about an Ibiza as a possible new car.

They look rather good and I'd assume that given their underpinnings, they should be good. The trim etc might not be up to VW class, but look at the prices - and I think I prefer it to the current Skoda Fabia.

HJ seems to rate them quite well.

SEATs are very popular here in Spain - obviously - and everyone I know that has one never has a bad word to say.

If my wife's Fabia is anything to go by, it'll be all VW under the bonnet in any case!

Oh thankyou, I know the engines and transmissions are usually the best things about SEATs, but they also seem to have come a long way from the rather basic, not too well made Ibizas from the nineties. The 1.2 seems a bit underpowered and noisy, so the 1.4 is the best bet for me, offering 47 mpg and 110 mph, making cruising more bearable. Also prices used seem to be falling now the new model has become available on the used market and it looks better than the model it replaced.
