Peugeot 306 HDi - Bizarre starting problem with 306 HDi - Ubermik

Bit of a strange one this so I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on it

I have a 306 HDi that at face value wont start, if however I feed a static 12v feed to the pump which at the moment is via the cigar lighter socket it starts and runs perfectly everytime and whilst running I have voltage at the plug for the pump

But if I put the plug back into the pump it turns over but wont start which doesnt seem to make much sense

Could this be something as silly as the seal between the LP pump and the fuel tank letting air in, and running the pump constantly via the cigar lighter socket prior to ignition is compensating in some way for the poor seal?

Ubermik, have you checked the voltage under load ? you may have a nominal 12volts at the plug but if there is a resistance in a connection somewhere or poor contacts in a relay there may not be sufficent current to run the pump ! and have you checked the earth as well ?
thats where i would start.

I would agree, or it could be that you have voltage in 'run' mode but none on 'start' mode

It turned out to be a ghost voltage DOH!

I applied a 12v supply to pin 4 on the relay connector and it didnt run, but if I applied the same suppy to the pump side of F35 it does.

So I checked the voltage of the live side of F35 with the power on pin 4 and did have voltage, but as soon as I reinserted the fuse and checked again it showed a ground rather than 12v

So then I switched to ohms rather than continuity, and found 0.0 ohms from the fuse carrier to the wire just before it leaves the engine bay, and also from the relay connector to about an inch outside the connector. But between the relay connector and the fuse carrier I have 200 ohms

On the diagram I have theres no other devices or connectors shown between the fuse and the relay connector so it appears I have a wire that thinks its a 200 ohm resister which is totally bizarre

Not sure what I can do now other than pay an auto electrician as running a new wire, using the live side of F33 to power F35 either directly or via an additional realay seeing as its half as thick all still leave the intial reason this wire is dead unchecked

And if its heat or friction thats damaged the wire then chances are it will do the same to other wires that follow the same path
