Ford ka2008 - Fuel consumption - flyingspud
I have recently bought one of the last of the old-cam chain- uprated engined ka. Very nice but its only doing 35 mpg. Exactly same use as a 2004 model i had before with 100007 miles on it which did 46 all the time. It runs perfectly , done 35000 and not driven hard. Mixed use. Hope its not normal! Thank you. Are you sure you haven`t got a binding brake/handbrake?

Spose there`s a list as long as your arm of things that`ll lower fuel consumption....which ones have you checked?

For a given speed does your latest Ka require more pedal-towards-the-metal than your original model?

It recquires less pedal. Quite a quick little engine campared tp the old one. It gets less. I thought when i first got it it was doing 48mpg. I think i ll have to fork out snd take it in.

Check your V5-what emission levels are shown?-if your 2004 is to Euro 3 and your 2008 is to Euro 4,then there could be a difference in the calibration and it could make fuel economy worse.

It might just be the unusually cold weather. It wouldn't be unusual to see a difference of at least 5 mpg between summer and winter - due to the richer fuel/air mixture and more sitting waiting for it to de-ice/de-mist.

Maybe wait until the weather warms up before worrying too much...

Would be worth checking fluid levels and tyre pressures too if you haven't already.
