Just wanted to share my experience recently of getting parts.

I was told I needed a new fuel pressure regulator for a bosch fuel pump.

Peugeot wanted £300. I thought about cutting the middle man out and going straight to bosch. I managed to find a local distributor off the bosch website and found one for £98.

This is a genuine part found via the bosch number on the regulator so I know its genuine.

Im just surprised on the amount of mark up peugeot put on, i saved £200!!

I know this isnt interesting but someone might find this info useful.

The moral is never ever take the first price offered and always look around.

Chinese ones have Bosch numbers on and come in "Bosch" boxes.Even plane spares are often fakes and come with fake certificates of authenticity.

I agree with JC2, I have been caught myself with Bosch aftermarket parts which are iether fakes or production quality failed for manufactures and fed to the aftermarket.
be warned

It is because of the utterly stupid business model dealereships are forced into by the manufacturers that this happens.

In my business (telecoms) we never usually mark parts up more than 50%, I sincerely wish I could get away with 200%..

Citroëns and Peugeots are cheap cars - they make up for that with steep parts prices. How about £1000 for a nasty mild steep backbox for my C5 V6? I bought a beautifully crafted Sebring aftermarket box, which will probably outlast the car, for £300.

Needed amaster cylinder for a Volvo 240 a few years ago and was quoted steeply by the local main lot ,got one from from Sweish /German auto parts and had it fitted for a third of the price. worse than that is the repair that isn't needed. Had a leaking differential and was told it needed replacing. I know a mechanic who enquired of his contacts and apparently this diff was prone to a little fluid leak but just top it up once in a while and all will be fine,,,and it was. A local main does the brake frightener, if your pads are not quite up to scratch or your discs either they give you an advisory to get you topart have them changed even when they know they are really quite safe. I had this direct from the service manager. On theother hand I suspected I had a duff battery and went to a local indie who tested it and said it was fine, he cleaned the contacts and that did the job. He didn't charge and guess where I went in future for maintainance.

You always remember the outlets who look after you.

I visited Savoy one of the tyre outlets round here a few years ago.The front tyres needed balancing After the work was done the young lad who did the work said no charge sir.I think he was one of the sons of the owner.I used to buy my tyres regulary from them. There are still a lot of good people who look after the customer and make a good living.
