Ford granada 2.0 dohc - Head gasket? - dazfoxy530

Hi there, think ive been done! just bought an immaculate 1990 granada 2.0 dohc ghia x, with a genuine 48k on clock, all backed up with FSH. So I rather surprised and upset to find white smoke and loss of coolant a week after purchasing. Think it is head gasket. Seems rather low milage for this to go though! Any ideas people.

head gasket can go at any age , often due to deteriation and may be poor antifreeze !

May be worth finding out why it went, is the rad Ok cooling fan etc & stat OK ?

Look for 'mayonaise' inside the oil filler cap ie white gunge

also check to see if there is oil in the coolant or vice versa

I would be very suspicious of 48K on a 1990 granada, these are mororway cruisers after all, so even at 10k per year, on a 20 year old car, that makes the mileage a potential

Take it back my friend and get a refund

I'm afraid you will probably find the cylinder head rotten and corroded.Very common once these reach a few years old.hth

thanks for the replies, pretty sure the mileage is correct, the car is in mint condition and is backed up by fully documented history. Is amazing I agree.

No mayo in the oil, all clean, rad looks ok, will have it booked in soon get it fixed.
