VW Golf Mk4 - Immobilisor Activated when key in one way - Tmack

My immobilisor seems to be playing up. I've had the batteries replaced in my key fob. however when I put the key into the ignition one way it comes up immobilsor activated (though it still allows car to start but warning noise n light remains). If I take the key out turn it round and insert the warning doesn't come up. I've given the key a clean...

any other suggestions as to what this might be?

cheers

Dirt around ignition switch or aerial loose?

Do you have a lot of keys on the keyring?

no dirt that I'm aware of...tho i'll give it a blast of wd40....

What you mean on aerial loose? the radio aerial?

only one small keyring attached to car key...

There's a small aerial around the ignition switch which reads the immo chip in the key. If it's loose or badly fitted, or if there is a lot of dirt around the switch, it might cause this problem.

I asked about the keyring because other immo keys can cause read problems, and too much weight can pull the ignition key away from the aerial.

ok cool I'll have a look for the immo aerial...

For ref i did give the ignition a blast of wd40 which seemed to aleviate it just the once but then it started again with the immobiliser activated...

If need be is the aerial easily replaceable do you know?
