Volkswagen Polo IV - Leak in car - firbird

Had a little trouble with my car this weekend (Polo 2002)

One of the rear passenger door locks was giving me a bit of trouble over the last few weeks, it wouldn't always lock when I used the central locking. About 4 days ago, it just became stuck in the locked position and now the door won't open from the inside or the outside.

It rained heavily this weekend but I didn't drive anywhere so car was sat in the drive. On monday morning, there was a 2 inch puddle of water in the footwell in the back, on the same side as the locked door. The seats were bone dry, just water on the floor, and only on the one side in the back. The window def wasn't left open, there's no obvious gap around the door where the water might have gotten in from.

Do you guys reckon the two issues are related? Water leaked into the door and messed up the locking mechanism?

Also, who would I need to take the car to, to get the two issues fixed. Presumably it'd be a bodywork repair shop...?

Thanks for help :)

I suspect the membrane needs replacing behind the door card and this caused the water leak ! but thats asuming you park on the flat. If you park on a slope the water could enter anywhere and find its way to a rear foot well.
The door card will need removing to investigate C/Locking fault, a little tricky with the door closed but thats how its done & the wiring checking in the door pillar, the lock for poossible seizing or the solonoid itself.
Take it too a competent garage or VW specialist who will have the diag kit for investigating the C/locking before stripping. You don't need a dealer though.

yup, was parked on the flat. It rained again today and no more water came through...

The garage I normally go to said they'd have to remove the door panel, and they might have to break the panel to get it off... this sounded a bit dodgy to me, and so I was wondering if it might be better to go to a bodywork place instead... or should I just look for another garage?

Nearest VW place want to charge something ridiculous just to have a look at it so I'm not too keen on going there in all honesty
