Renault Megane - V5C Signing Issue - Samuel

I saw car in Gillingham, Kent, private seller. He looks like 18( i think). I checked the registration form and it is showing that the car is from the South Yorkshire. He told me that it is his friends car. I immediately done HPI check and it is showing that the no record of stolen or write off. I checked the Registration form and dealer / trader form missing from V5C. I asked him to change in his name and sell to me. But he is telling he want to sell the car as a single owner from new.
1. Can i buy car from him, he is not a trader but he is claiming that he can signin the V5C as a registered owner.
2. Can i do buying with 18 years guy?
3. Any problem in future that original owner claims that his car is stolen(becoz he didnt signin in V5C)?

Renault Megane - any update? - Stropley

Did you buy the car & how did it go?

I had a similar experience last month with another Renault - young, part time trader; the 'sold to dealer' section missing from V5, rest intact. He reckons he sends the dealer slip off to DVLC & they temporarily register it in his name so he can sign for the transfer when selling on. I'd never heard of this but the VIN numbers matched, I knocked at the door & met his Mum etc. so I decided to take his word for it. I didn't stop worrying until the new V5 came through the door with the car registered in my name though I can tell you!

I reckon if you feel in any way suspicious walk away - there's hundreds of Meganes out there for sale.

I think even part-time traders have to be registered with the local councils now - is there a way to do a quick check on who's selling is registered - before or while you're looking round a car - on internet-capable smartphone maybe?
