Why does my insurance company want the V5 for my written-off Mazda 6?
Why would my insurance company (Zurich) want me to send them the V5 form for my ex-car (2007 Mazda 6TS hatchback, 18,000 miles) when they have declared it a write-off after their recovery people had removed it from my property? While parked off road, it had been struck by another car and judged to be uneconomical to repair. Are they going to have it restored after all, bearing in mind that only the rear door suffered damage?

Read your V5C carefully and conform to the instructions about scrapping a car. You fill in section 9 (photocopy it and keep a copy) and send it by Post Office special delivery to DVLA. You give the rest of the V5C to Zurich. If Zurich does not give you the details of the dismantler, put Zurich's details in the section. The insurer or the dismantler has to sign section 9, so that must be why they have asked you to send them the complete form. But they must send the signed section 9 back to you for you to send to the DVLA. You cannot trust them to send it for you or you could remain liable for VED on the car.
