The missus has just bought a new car.
Its a Nissan Almera 1.5 SE, registered march 2002 on the 02 plate in dark burgundy metallic.
Spec is as follows:
Electric windows, central locking, air con, PAS, Alloy wheels, CD player, 2 1/2 years nissan warranty remaining.
Its done 8000 miles and is an ex Nissan demo car..its in pristine condition and drives perfect.
It was up at £7995 and we chopped in her M reg Peugeot 306 (54,000 miles, few dents etc)...we ended up paying £6,295 plus her car. Bought from a Nissan main dealers.
Anyone got any comments as to whether we got a decent deal? thanks.

Depends partly on what kind of 306 it was. If it is in the same place in the range as your new car, it'd be a 1.4 XL and a fair trade in on that might be £1,000. £1,200 tops if they knew someone who would take it straight away. All depends on the dents though.
So you really paid about £7,500 for the car, maybe less. With that in mind, I'd say you did okay. I'm not a great fan of the Almera but they are cheap and not unpleasant. For the same money you'd have been looking at a more basic, slower Focus (and even then it'd be a bit of a quest), a Mazda 323, a Xsara or an Astra. 307s, Civics, Corollas and Golfs would have been at least £1500 more with an even remotely comparable spec and age.
At that money, you got a good car, particularly if a reputation for reliability is important to you, as well as the satisfaction of buying from a main dealer.

Thanks David!..Yeah one of the main reasons she went for the Almera was its reputation for reliability (she uses the car for her job). Also her father is a fan of Japanese cars and he's well chuffed she went for one! Dunno why they're cheaper than the comparable Focus and 307 etc though cos I think its a nifty looking little car...I heard the Almera has been unjustifiably underrated for some reason.
Her 306 was the rock bottom basic model by the way...no elec windows or CL...just PAS..so we're quite chuffed we haven't got to go through the hassle of selling it!
We did see slightly cheaper examples at out local car supermarket but I think they were imports (albeit UK spec) and they didnt offer anywhere near as much for the trade in...most importantly though, she likes the colour! lol (awaits thump from the missus if she reads this)

Good choice of car. The 2002 styling gives it a strong personality, and the mechanics should be worry free.
I bet it looks gorgeous in dark burgundy met! Whoops, there goes my credibility!
