We own an AudiA4 1.9 TDi 115 (X reg) and it has been misfueled twice without damage being done.
1. About 5 years ago I put about 4 litres of petrol into an almost empty tank. I realised my mistake at the pump and decided to fill with diesel (after signalling to the cashier that I was going to swap nozzles!). It ran fine and I kept adding diesel every 100 miles or so to increase ratio of diesel in the mix. No noticable side-effects then or subsequently.
2. About 3 years ago my wife filled up with petrol and drove off unaware. The car conked out afetr about 100 yards. AA came, asked wife if she had just filled up. Problem diagnosed. On my instructions she had the car towed to our village garage, where they drained the tank and fuel system, added something to the fuel pump, and then refilled with diesel. Car ran perfectly.
Two lucky escapes! We still have the car and it runs like new, now on 113k miles.
We'll probably be selling it next year and that's when I could be asked the dreaded question "Has it ever been misfuelled?"
So my advice would be to get it drained etc (as in 2 above) to be on the safe side. It all depends on the ratio of petrol to diesel that the car can cope with. In my example 1 above it was about 1:11 but you could be looking at a less forgiving ratio, dependent on the capacity of your tank.
Good luck!
