What are your thoughts on the stop/start technology cars. On a 2 mile journey into my local town I can easily stop 10 to 15 times, more during rush hour. It seems to me that there is considerable extra wear and tear on the starter motor, battery, flywheel gear ring, snatch on the cam belt/chain drive and many other systems which would be better contiuing to run smoothly rather than stopping and starting many times. I doubt the carbon savings are worth it from a cost and inconvenience point of view.

I think you are absolutely right. This technology is a pathetic attempt at a move towards greeness by the car manufacturers. My sister has this on a BMW and she is desperate to get it disabled.

Read the handbook;on most cars with this feature,a number of controls need to in a set position for it to operate.Handbrake on on some-on others position of clutch pedal etc..As you say,it looks good in the adverts but makes little difference to the average motorist.
