Using the tyresonline website mentioned in previous threads I have come to pretty much the same conclusion as HJ as regards tyres. My shortlist for the above vehicle at present is as follows:
Continental ContiEcoContact EP
Continental ContiPremiumContact
Pirelli P6000
Incidentally, I am replacing Michelin Energies that I have found to be so-so.
Can anyone recommend a tyre that they have found particularly good on Rover 618/620's, or would one of the above be a good choice?

One problem with the 620 is its overlight power steering. It will feel even lighter on P6000s and probably other low rolling resistance tyres.

We fit many makes of tyre - and have found the P6000 to be a good all-rounder.
It also looks good and offers good wet weather water clearing ability.
Shop around for the best price - the fast fits don't always offer the best price....

I had a 623 that came on Goodyear Eagles that were rubbish.
Managed to get the leasing company to change the front ones at 22k and went for Michelin Pilots which were much, much better. Wet grip especially was extremely good with understeer being much easier to control.

HJ is right about the light PAS. I drive the same car and I've had Conti Contact EP's for the last 10,000 miles. They offer good grip and relatively lower road noise and the steering is more positive and dare I say more precise. I had P6000's on before and found they didn't last long, were noisier and the steering was more vague than normal.
I'd definitely shop around though, one 'well Known' mulitple chain were selling them at £70 each, I got them from an independant for £49 each.

I've been quoted £70 apiece by ATS. I'd love to hear the details of your independent!
Thanks,
Nick.

I don't know where you're based but you're welcome to try Maidenhead Tyres and Exhaust.

They've got a few branches in the Berks area.
They did the front tracking, freed a sticky front brake caliper and fitted a new Conti ContactEP to the rear and the lot came to £75+vat so the £50 mark must be about right.
It was a quality job, the tracking was spot on and I've not heard a squeak out of the caliper.

Thanks very much. I'm in Cambridge, but get about quite a bit.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My excellent Rover dealer (Crown Garage, Soham, Cambs) has fitted a pair of Conti EPs for just £100 all inclusive.

Just to clear up any confusion, I meant Conti EcoContact CPs, of course. The EP range are for small runaround type cars, and CP for bigger cars.
