Any - Student car insurance question. - mscott

Has anyone solved the car insurance problem where one of your children, who is a named driver on your policy, goes away to college for term time but drives the car during holidays? Is it cheaper just to leave them on the policy, or to take them off for a refund and put them back on when required. Or is there some form of flexible policy?

Thanks in advance.

We took the hit and left our daughter on the policy because as a named driver with Direct Line she was earning her own no claims bonus. OK it's only valid with Direct Line but still a sizable improvement on not having any.

We have the same situation. On insurance renewal time, eventually we called Aviva.

After going through the whole process, I asked for extra discount as 'Master Stumpy is away at Uni and only home in the hols' - after a pause, where the rep said he spoke with his manager, he came back with a deal I couldn't refuse. An excellent price - only about 70% of the cost of the best on confused.com. No extra conditions - and their usual terms.

So I would suggest you try Aviva. BTW Master T is 19, and we all have full NCD. Car is a Focus 1.6 Ghia, 3 years old.

Good luck, S.
