Honda Accord Tourer - Automatic Transmission Fluid - lovehandles

Hello Everybody,

I have just agreed to purchase a Honda Accord Tourer diesel automatic from a Honda dealer (13 months old & 8,800 miles) - as this will be my first ever automatic car can any auto gearbox experts advise on how often the ATF should be changed ?

I wish to keep the car for as long as possible so am wondering if changing the ATF every 2 years is ok (my annual milage is circa 15,000).

Also I annually tow a camping trailer (weight of 280 kg) to the west coast of France (from West Yorkshire) - is this an issue with this auto box ?

Should I go to a Honda dealer or a specialist auto gearbox company for the ATF change ?

Many thanks for your help.

Matt

I've read that some people change ATF as often as their engine oil but that's excessive in my opinion. ATF doesn't get contaminated like engine oil. I would say change it every 25k or so. Here is a handy link with tips about autos http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31796
