how to tell if ipod case is leather - Leif

i bought an ipod case described as being made from leather, but it stank of plastic, and did not feel right. how can i find out? is there a trading standards office where i can send it? (i don't need it back. but if it is fake, it'd be nice for them to be visited by legal people.)

Possible heat using a lighter/flame if it is real leather it should not melt, plastic will.

i'm not sure why i bothered to ask. it looks like plastic to me, but i have no idea who to complain to. Do you have a constructive suggestion to make?

That's not a very helpful comment is it. The make is a known brand, and i don't like the idea of them ripping people off.

if its the belkin one, and its a genuine belkin then yes its leather.

but as i said, in the grand scheme of things, its really not loosing any sleep over if it does the job.

Find a dog. it will sniff and show interest if it`s leather and will open it`s mouth to accept it - hoping for a chew.

if it`s plastic, dog will wrinkle it`s nose and roll it`s eyes in disgust at the smell.

in court, if dog salivates - it`s a sign the Judge is wearing leather underpants.

it's made by Proporta. it might be a refinished leather, which in this country cannot legally be described as leather. it feels cheap and nasty, so i bought another product, which works well.

i'm not losing any sleep over this, but i happen to think that if someone sells something described as X, and it is Y, that is wrong. hence i will send it to whichever body exists to regulate these things. Not that i know who/where. if people do not complain, things get worse. if we do complain when someone tries to rip us off, which might be the case here, then things improve.

scratch the inside with something, eg fingernail, leather will "rough up" when scratched against the grain, plastic won`t.
