On opening my external hard drive last night, I noticed I had aquired a new folder with an odd name:-
3fcedd55ee770b737d8dcff75c36192
I did Google it but to no avail.
Any clues, is it a virus and can it be safetly deleted?

Right click and look at its properties to get some clues.
It will be a temp folder, probably for a service pack or hot fix.
...and can be deleted (if you have sufficient rights)
