97 1.7 Varta "Blue" E11 battery query - Englishbullterrier
Anyone know if the Varta "Blue" range (I have the E11 version) is a gel battery or standard battery using liquid acid ? Would like to know for (Smart Charger) purposes.

(It is of course, "Maintenance Free")

Emailed Varta in the UK but, guess what, no reponse :-)

Can't call them from here (Latvia) unfortunately.

I'm pretty sure that the E11 is a calcium battery. That means it can be charged like a normal battery. It is not a gel battery.

What's the weather like in Latvia? It's cold and wet here!

about 4"-6" snow every night. Was -30c for 2/3 days last week. Better now at -12c.

Damn, another pair of jeans ruined with battery acid, carrying spare to jump the car when -30c :-(

Varta Blue use liquid. Its the equivalent of a Bosch Silver (Cadmium Silver plates). In fact I think the Blue is a Bosch battery made under license by varta.

Perhaps instead of the E11 you should get a Varta E44. They are both the same physical size but the E44 has 3Ah more and 100 EN more. So no more ruined jeans.

What's 100 EN more ? I'm familiar with CCA and capacity, but not EN.
