I'm looking to take out RTI Gap on my new car. There is an option to delay the start of the GAP policy for 12 months, as my insurance company provide a replacement car in the first year. The only fly in the ointment is that I'm planning to change my insurance company in June, due to a nightmare I had trying to change the car over. (Long story- but amounted to 'computer says no' by someone sat in Mumbai!)
Do most insurance provide a replacement in the first 12 months regardless of when the policy was taken out. If I take a policy out with a different company in june when my car is 6 months old, will the '12 month' replacement still be valid. (Am I making this clear!!!)
The GAP deal is very good and deferring it for 12 months effectively gives 4 years cover for a little over £100.

Not all insurance companies will replace - check your small print.
With Gap insurance do shop around as well, as there is plenty of difference in the prices being quoted.

If my policy is typical, it just says that they will provide a new car if yours is stolen or damage costs over 60 % of list price to repair 'within 12 months of you or your partner buying the car from new'.
It doesn't say anything about being insured with them for all of that time, so presumably the answer to your question is yes. No doubt some companies will try to wriggle out, as mine is after the theft last week.

NFU's policy is 2 years for new car replacement.
Worth a phone call to one of their helpful local offices or indeed Stratford head office for clarification of your question, won't be the cheapest quote though.

I've had a good search for GAP. Audi wanted £400, I've got it for £113 (3 yrs and £10k). Bit of a no brainer really.
I'll probably defer it and look for company that provides the 12 month replacement. I had a feeling not all companies would provide the facility as a matter of course.

I got no response at all from one of their nearby offices when I completed their on-line contact form a couple of years ago. I tried twice before giving up.

I didn't know they'd come kicking and screaming into the 21st century yet..:)
I deal with Northampton (Pitsford) office by phone, always nice to deal with and don't try to charge you for everything they can think of.
