02 2.0 Tyre speed rating - which one to fit? - gramar
My car needs 4 new tyres. The ones I want to fit made by Kumho only come in V rating The 8 year old originals still on the car are H rated.

Is it OK to fit the V's? Will my insurers or the MOT test be a problem?

V will be fine, no problem at all.

You are fine with these as you are going the right way...V rated tyre is next one up from H in the ratings, assuming they are the same size and at least the same load index or higher still.

It's not always advisable though apparently not illegal to go the other way with speed rating...downrating, though it causes much discussion here.

Guys, thanks for the advice.

I'm hoping to get the V rated tyres on this week. The ones fitted are original and only part worn at 46k but will be 8 years old in April. They are covered in those little cracks around the treads and have started to appear on at least one sidewall. A nasty steering wooble has suddenly set in in the last two weeks and swopping tyres around has made little difference. So I'm changing them early rather than too late.

What make were the originals? 46K and 8 years seems pretty good to me.

at a guess PSA's best pal -michelin. Expensive yes, but they do last a long time in both age and milage.
