What car for me? - Chippychap
Hi guys, I drive an '01 Picasso 1.6 petrol and LOVE the spacious interior.
Sick of fuel prices and sick of road tax prices.
I like the 62mpg of the diesel Nemo, it also cost 35 quid a year to tax it, also it seems to be another spacious beast.
At around the ten grand mark for an ex demo model what do you think my alternative options are?
Not overly fussed whether petrol or diesel, not at all bothered about performance.
Any suggestions?

First thing, how many miles do you do per annum and how many people do you have to cart around?

The £10k purchase price would buy a lot of petrol and road fund licence if you are not a very high mileage driver.

Thanks guys, there is only two of us but we tend to carry large objects.
We do about 8-10,000 miles per year.
Other thing I like about the Picasso/Nemo is the height, my wife has a bad back and like to just step into the car rather that try to bend down to get in.
Others will manage the mps but not all match the height, or vise versa.

How about a Berlingo. Many more about than Nemos

Agree with RTJ. You could consider keeping the Picasso until it starts threatening expensive repairs, then go for a diesel Picasso / Berlingo within budget. Buying used the diesel / petrol argument is less of an influence, and as you say you'll save money on fuel and road tax.

CC have you driven a Captain Nemo, if not do take it on bumpy roads to see if you can stand the ride, not in the comfort class of your present car by a long chalk.

I'll third the suggestions for Berlingo, and the new model really is a good comfortable car even better than the previous imo and that was very good, still got a proper handbrake too.

Thanks guys, I wanted the suggested options to rattle my perception of what I needed, you have done that.
As a couple who are now just retired the money will not come our way again, if I used it to subsidise my beloved Pic then rather quickly we have a money pit.
The MPG would determine whether or not we can afford to bimble about in the car, as with the road tax.
Fuel AND road tax will rocket but a more frugal beast would at least put us half a step ahead.
S'pose I could get an old Lotus and thread her in through the boot. ;-)....sigh
