Not without more details?

Does it misfire before cutting out?
Does it splutter before cutting out?
Does it just cut out without any warning?
What cc was the previous engine fitted?
Did you use old components from previous engine? eg, distributor, plugs, coil, plug leads, carb, fuel injection, ect? or parts from the 1.3 donor engine?
Do you know the history of the 1.3 engine?
Was the fault present in the car it was taken from?

we had one of these andhad a stalling problem. Cleaning the idle control valve sorted it.

Well, I scrapped mine when this happened because I finally lost patience. To be fair, mine was a wreck anyway.
Mine didn't like idling, and Ive heard idle problems aren't uncommon on the old Polo engines.

Presuming its got a carb, the idle jets a very small and frequently block, especially when disturbed(fitting engine!).
The car initially will run OK on choke but when this cuts out you are left without idle.

These cabrs do not like poor fuel, especially if its been contaminated with water.

NB not for this fault, make sure you have re-fitted the heated air intake pipe between the air filter and exhaust manifold, if you havent you WILL suffer from carb icing.

thanks all i will try and have another look.
It does sound like the Jets, as it will run ok till warm then will not idle. i think it is also something to do with the automatic choke? Although this may be the solution and not the issue i will get back to you all
thanks for the support

If it is rubbish in the jets, then your local motorist shop has probably got a variety of in-line fuel filters (fit between pump and carb). They are cheap (~£5) and have sorted two problems for me. Good luck.

How old is this car. Are you sure it is a carb. This engine was fitted with a Bosch Monotronic Single point injecter and a Cat. If you have this model then the temp sensor may be us and when the cat/Lambda is not comming out of open loop mode.

Provide mpre info and angive series is it an AAV or what.
