Hi there.

I have a problem with my car.It has done 57k miles i bought it a few months ago. I have recently noticed that sometimes the yellow glow plug light flashes intermittently when I'm driving.especially when the car is cold and 5 minutes after a cold start.

while the glow plug light is flashing the car feels like its lost power and there is no turbo boost. However when i turn the car off and on from the Ignition key the glow plug light stops flashing and the car drives fine.

I have a mate who works at Ford, and he checked it out on their diagnostics machine and he said that it says the computer is saying that the fault lies at the Delphi Diesel pump and he quoted me £1260 for brand new pump including labor. However they cannot guarantee that it is the diesel pump, but he said in majority of the cases they have seen it is almost always the diesel pump

I am just wondering if anybody else encountered this problem and can advise me further.

Thanks.

hi there well im affraid your ford friend is correct 99% of cases with those symtoms is usually down to the pump . however i have a ford tourneo minibus 2.0 tdci 130 psi on an 04 plate and was lucky enough to have not just the fuel pump go on me (£1260) but all 4 injectors aswell (£1104) so after throwing nearly £2500 at it it runs like new but then if it had had'nt i prob would of just cried for many hours lol . good luck for a cheap inexpensive solution to your problem and good luck for the future . neil . hull .

There has been a lot of problems with this Ford engine on HJ, read some of the history.
I am no expert but would suggest finding a reputable independent diesel specialist, Bosch? to have a look while it is still running.
Other option is give the car an Italian tune up. A THRASH along the motorway- get it very hot dont use sixth gear, you need to get the system running hot, and that could burn off some of the internal soot which may be causing the problem.

would u recommend putting some injector cleaner in it like Forte?

Some Shell Vpower/BP Ultimate made a difference to friend's Mondeo - 1st he got rid of the light, then the car as he had spent almost a grand in 3 weeks with injectors and "other cures"

i had the glow plug light permanently flashing on my 02 mondeo tcdi, i changed all 4 injectors and that did the trick. £190 from a breaker. Diesel pumps can be got for around £200, and u get a 3 month warranty usually. Dont buy new, you will pay as much as the car is worth, hope this helps

I have a problem understanding this.

1.I thought if the pump was knackard then the car would misfire and sometimes fail to start. This is not the case, when i restart the engine from the ignition the light stops and the car drives normally again until i start it up from cold.

2.Why does the light flash intermittently not permanently?

Hello, please can somebody help me with an issue I have?

I have a 54 plate (2004) TDci 130 BHP Mondeo, and last month my Glow Plug Light started flashing (and car went into limp mode with no turbo) when I put my foot down.

I changed the Fuel Filter and all was well for about 2 weeks (1000 miles)

THEN..... Glow plug light again when I put my foot down, and now engine management light is on.

When I accelerate the car slowly, I have a light clackering between 2000 - 3000 rpm, and stil - if I accelerate too much the glow plug light flashes and limp mode returns again, until engine re-start.

Yesterday, the engine idle became very, VERY rough, as if it is mis-firing??????? but when you rev in neutral, the mis-fire become less prominet (but you can still tell its there)

Can anyone please tell me what is wrong?? :-(

Thanx folks, Craig!

It could be anything, the fuel systems on these are incredibly complex, too complex for half of Fords own dealers to properly understand them.

There's a couple of things to do first.

Change the cam sensor, it's only about 60GBP so cheaper than getting the codes properly read.

Look on the underside of the engine cover, if there's soot on there you have a split intercooler hose. A fault code reader won't spot that and an inexperienced operator could well steer you in the wrong direction about what needs to be done to fix it.

If it's none of the above then find a decent Bosch Diesel specialist, get teh codes read and go from there.

PS, when you changed the filter did you crank the engine until it started? How long did it take?

when i had the exact same thing happen to my mondeo 2.0 tdci it was the injectors. £850 and all is well. could be the pump best to get a diesel specialist to hook it up to a lap top whilst its running. have the injectors checked approx £75 mine were all bad but the pump was and still is ok!

Google this site ,it is more than likely the EGR valve or the turbo activator .

Hi,

I have the same problem. I already repair the pump and the injectors so the cause is in something else. Could anyone help?

Thanks.

Dirty EGR valve.

Hello again,

thanks for answer.
The problem still exist...
Only on cold engine on idle the glow plug light flashes. If I am driving the car is OK. Start and stop of engine stop the problem but if I stop the car after few minutes again on idle the error start. If the engine warm up a little bit the problem never happend.
the error number is P0328 - knock sensor

I've check the the EGR valve and also the:
-air flowmeter
-knock sensors
-fix injectors and pump
-Shaft Position Sensor
-delphi sensor at common rail

Please if you have any suggestion let me know.
Thanks

Hi I have a Mondeo TDCi 2ltr, with a flashing glow plug light but only when cold. once the engine is warm you restart and its fine. Have cleaned the ERG unit, replaced the acurator, checked the fuse, glow plug relay and glow plugs, all fine. Any ideas?

03 2.0 TDCI glow plug light flashes intermittently - Collos25

How have you replaced the actuator because these should be sold with the turbo unless the actuator and turbo are mated together then they will not work properly.

I have a flashing glow plug light problem (who doesn't).

Mondeo Mk3 2005 130bhp 2.0 tdci. 108000 miles.

With normal driving the car behaves OK. I've driven at 85mph in 4th gear @4000rpm without any problems.

The car starts fine even on cold mornings.

However when I'm doing 40-50 mph and put my foot down the car goes into limp mode.

Restarting cures it until the next time.

The camshaft sensor was replaced 2/3 years ago when the car kept cutting out. Not had this problem since.

I've changed crankshaft sensor.

Can't find any leaks in the system.

Used a mates OCD diagnostic tool several times over the past few weeks. Came up with P0001 once.

Since then this code has not reappeared.

Today had it read with professional diagnostic. Came up with no codes at all.

Came home replaced egr (I have two -I tested the replacement by starting the car and connecting the vaccum pipe. The valve opened and closed ok.

Cleaned manifold (pretty caked up). Replaced fuel filter but still have the flashing glow plug light.

Used mates OCD again came up with code P0002 fuel volume regulator control circuit which appears to point to the fuel metering valve on the pump.

Anyone replaced this? Is it simple? Given the symptoms I've described is it likely this is the cause?

Thanks in advance - I'm stumped.
