03 2.2 Diesel Runs on own Oil - NoWorkEspace
Q. I have just had a rather nasty surprise with my Espace 2.2 DCI. The Problem appears to be the engine running on ( ie screaming) its own oil. It ceased initially after a few seconds, then drove normally for approx 500 yards, to then happen again for a few moments then back to normal. Both these times the motor was under light load accelerating. The Service and ESP dash lights came on and remained on until parking the vehicle probably three miles later.
On restarting later that day to drive home, a great cloud of oily smoke emitted from exhaust, but car drove (steadily) home (17 Miles) and seamed OK. have this morning taken the vehicle to service dealer (another 13 Miles) who have checked it out with the diagnostic tool and a road test. Nothing amiss reported until parking up for me to collect, when the engine started screaming (running on own oil). They (mechanics) now believe that the rocker gaskets etc will need replacing at an incredible cost with labour of 670 spondoolics.

Previously I have had a new Turbo and two EGR valves replaces ( LIMP MODE) thankfully under AA warrantee.

Is anyone else having this problem or any knowledge of it and a curative measure?

Thanks in anticipation.

What is the oil level on the dipstick? Good bet that it is high and, if it is, VERY negligent of dealer not to have checked and/or noticed.

Have known cylinder heads crack and seep oil through and run like that not renault thou is this a high mileage motor?

That price for £670 sounds like a head gasket also wants crack testing and a skim.

Seems like "leaking" turbo oil seals problems are developing, which are well documented if you do some research. You need to have the turbo examined now, including the air intake intercooler pipe, to establish if (much) leaking oil from the turbo is evident. But note that the air intake intercooler pipe should be slightly oily with normal turbo operation. If you do not do this and the problem gets worse, the engine could run on out of control using its own oil as fuel (leaking past the turbo oil seals) until it is all used up ......!
But you may have experienced this already to some extent.
