Stopped over the line with a red light camera - Rattle
Been worrying about this. As I approached the lights they had changed to amber but I was still far enough to stop but I must have mid judged it and stopped slightly over the white line. Would I get this done for this? The lights were still on amber by the time I had stopped.

You will be sent a polite letter commending you for your perfectly-judged emergency stop Rattle.

Glad I wasn't behind you though. It sounds rather as if most people would have gone across in your situation.

The junction was the at Edge Lane and the A56 (Chester Road) I was turning left into the A56 from Edge Lane heading towards Sale.

To be honest if it was a minor junction I probably would have gone through, but I tend to avoid this junction when I can anyway and didn't expect the amber to stay on as much as it did.

;-) It will help you lose weight, as you will have to keep sweating for 14 days (or maybe more if the Postal strike delays your mail).

Ian, you're worrying again. The camera is there to snaffle the folks who blatantly jump the lights.
You probably could have gone over on amber and not been captured, I did this today somewhere local. You did the right thing by stopping safely in time. Don't worry about the line.

Ted

Edit..Just read aboit where it was. The camera is in Edge Lane and on the central reservation. I don't think it's aimed at the left turn slip and probably can't see it.
I'm certain it's aimed at drivers going straight across the A56, which as you know, is very wide.

Yeah I had wondered that because the stop line for that slip road is slightly before the main stop line even though the traffic lights are in the same place, if I was in the straight on lane then I would have stopped before the line anyway.

There is cameras on the other side of the junction but the lights were on green then too. I also made sure that I did not move off until the lights had changed to green as so many people move off when its on amber which is an offence.

I really hate these red light cameras for this reason there is too much secrecy and myth about them, speed cameras on the other hand are impossible to get caught by unless you're speeding.

Amber lights by regulation are on for 3 seconds ( within 0.25 of a second ) red light cameras are activated mostly after 0.4 of a second or more depending on the junction set up and the speed limit. The offence only happens if any part of the vehicle crosses the sensor in or in front of the white line when the camera is activated. this it mostly triggered by the front or rear wheels as most of the sensors are pressure sensitive rather then the proximity type. I hope that puts your mind at rest. Regards Peter

In my experience of observing other people, they only seem to flash when vehicles cross the induction loops with both front and rear wheels. The first flash is usually when the rear wheel is over the line and the second when the car is exiting the junction. Funnily enough, I saw a car parked on the pavement which had been unloading to a shop which was being 'done up' the car then drove along the pavement to be moved out the way and this triggered the red light camera. I presume because the wires go under the pavement even though they are not intended to catch anyone there.
