Van - 87 1.9 losing power - Mikeym1
Hi,

I own a 1987 Ducato van with the 1900 engine (carburettor version)
Recently it is losing power mainly on hills and seems to happen after 55 mph and
the pedal is pressed a little harder. If I release the accelerator the van runs okay.

The RAC have :-

Cleaned the jets
Cleaned the distributor cap
Cleaned the plug leads
Sprayed the carburettor with some sort of cleaner
Ignition module was replaced recently.

but the fault persists.

Any ideas please?

Mike

Dont know much much about modern petrol engines but it sounds like weak mixture. Does it have an inline fuel filter that could be blocked or it could be the strainer in the tank? Or could be that the lift pump is not supplying sufficient fuel. Have you changed the air filter recently - that could make it rich.

Try running it without the filter, if that doesn't help, install a temporary fuel supply under the bonnet to feed fuel direct to the carb.

Try new spark plugs and do a compression test while you have them out.
