Are the bulbs replaceable in the the Push-button Facia Panel switches (used for rear window heater/air-con etc.) ??
There are 2 bulbs in each push-button switch, one for illumination & one for when switch is operated.
I have taken switches out, had a look at bulbs, tried pulling them out a bit with pliers, but they don't seem to be moving. Don't want to use too much force & break them.
Are these bulbs replaceable or do you have to replace whole switch when a bulb is not working ??

I did replace the bulb in a Carlton facia switch once, presumably a similar design, IIRC it did pull out, quite a fiddly job though.. Probably less hassle to visit eBay / breakers and get a replacement.

Almost certain you're supposed to replace whole switch. However some have chaved up their switches with different colour LED's so it may be possible to get them apart.
Plenty of spare ones on e-bay from time to time - even whole panels with switches. These are the ones to go for as heater fan switch isn't available separately now. Worth registering and asking here as well www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f...2

I did some bulb replacement of the bulbs in Vauxhall Vectra Omega switches a couple of years later than yours and the biggest problem was that the new ones were a lot brighter. I bought several types from maplins and tried them for size. In the end I just got new switches from breakers yards. The alternative would be to swap all the bulbs for 12v amber LEDs.

It is going back about 8 yeras now but I think I used 'grain of rice' bulbs. Given the switch pricing on eBay limnked baove I'd just buy some switches of there.

Is the Air Recirculation switch related to the Air-Con switch in operation or are they completely separate ??
My Air-Con is not working, possibly needs regas.
When I press the Air Recirculation button, the ON status light does not come on.
Proably bulb has blown, but just wondered whether Air Recirculation ON status might be linked to whether Air-Con is working.

I think they work independantly of each other. Pretty sure they did with my old 1993 Diplomat I had, and Vauxhalls I've owned since then have done so.
It won't work however if the air flow is pointing towards the windscreen.

Recirc is independent of a/c in these. The switch also has a replaceable bulb the same type as the clock/heater controls.

I checked with a main dealers, he said no parts were replaceable in the switches.
At first he did mention Capless 286 bulbs might be ones used before he checked.
But looking on ebay, these seem to be 5mm diameter which I think is bigger than the bulbs I saw in the switches.

The switches can be pulled apart (if you know what you're doing as they're not sealed units) and the bulb changed for an LED, or same spec bulb from an electronics store - eg Maplin.
The 286 capless bulb is way too big. Off the top of my head, I think they're called something like rice bulbs.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure I used grain of rice bulbs in my Carlton swich repairs, OK there was a bit more roof for manouver in those switches. I'd still just buy complete switches off ebay now though unless I enjoyed the challenge of fixing the old ones.

Got some switches from a scrapyard
Had a look inside them, they're easy to take apart.
Found there are 2 small bulbs inside, one slightly bigger than the other.
The bulbs sit on a little baseboard, both bulbs are either soldered to it or their filament wires are tied together underneath.
Each type of switch (Rear Demister, Rear Fog, Air Con, Air Recirc) generally have a different locating pin position on back of switch, so you can't put wrong switch in wrong position and different electrical pinouts.
(although Air Recirc & Rear Fog have similiar pinouts on back, so probably can swop main bodies ok, putting on correct front)
The bulbs on their baseboard are easy to swop in switch body if you have right type from another switch.
