Check your engine ECU isn't sitting in a flood of water.
It's situated in the windscreen plenum area over on the nearside.

Ah so its actually a Rover 75...
This 2.0 diesel engine is the BMW M47 engine. It has an electronic drive by wire throttle, so no cable.
