An old boy's been sticking a small brass model dog to his car. Now, the police have told him to take it off, as it's "illegal". Is it?
|
Potentially "Dangerous Parts" under Construction and Use Regs.
|
Couldn't he stick one on that breaks off "easily"?
|
Maybe, but he hasn't, has he? And, to quote the report,
'He has had numerous minor accidents'
none of which managed to dislodge the dog. I wonder if this is how he's got through 50 cars in 50 years. Anyway, I'm glad he doesn't live near me.

Do Rolls Royce cars, or any others, still have "mascots"?

"illegal". Is it?
Who knows, or cares? He should ignore them and become an amusing nine-days-wonder tabloid martyr. Mr X can reappear and espouse his cause.
A lot of people do this. I saw a car with a similar horse, gundog or something in the same place - rather far back on the bonnet to get the pedestrian in the head or heart rather than the goolies - only yesterday. I wouldn't want a furry animal on my car but I like other people customising their little tea trays.
|
Perhaps he could stick it on the roof? Does an MOT pick up on things like this, as non standard attachments?
I am sure there are far more dangerous cars and contraptions out there than to worry about this.
And the tinyurl link contains the word "woof" - what are the chances of that!
|
I'm afraid I cheated, and used an "alias", a quite new thing that "tinyurl" now allows for.

Didn't Princess Di have a frog mascot mounted on her car bonnet before she married Charles ?
I didn't see the Old Bill rushing to nick her.... I'm surprised they have nothing better to do with their time.......I suppose he was an easy target.

I'm guessing from the report that someone else reported it and it's one of those "they just had to follow it up" and now the media has picked it up. It says it could have been reported by someone he may have crossed swords with over parking? The way its written makes it sound like he's getting into parking arguments all the time!
The fact he's had it fitted for years on various cars, including during accidents it must have been seen by hundreds of coppers!

Perhaps if he welded it to the sump (head down) it would be more into the spirit of things and able to part the hair on a few passing rabbits.
No one would ever spot that - given the complete `blanking` of the contemporary human psyche to anything below the upper paintwork.
Our best customer (auntie Nellie) has a rabbit hook down there and often has a free evening meal.

I could not agree more with the police.
There is no difference between 4x4 bull bars and this dog. Really makes a mockery of the car industry trying to make their cars safer regarding pedestrian impact.

They should have given one away free with every (Old rover) Maestro.
A leg would drop off as you lifted it out of its box - the mounting screws would be rusty and to complete the image it would be gripping a bit of string in its mouth - at the end of which would be a (rusty) suspended nut.
It would then be mounted on the bonnet with pride in manufacturing craftsmanship while a flag was run up a pole and someone sang `Rule Britannia`
|
If the dog was called Rover it would be leaking from somewhere as its head gasket would gave blown
|
I can think of somewhere he could stick it.
|
Yes, Inside on the dashboard where he can still see it and get comfort from the memory association would seem fine.
|
|
He needs a proper mascot:-)

stupid old fool
"ive been in the war you know"
tell that to the poor pedestrian as it ripped their entrails out in a 10mph pedestrian crash

stupid old fool
"ive been in the war you know"
Rather uncalled for. I suspect having served in the forces during a world war might well put some of the idiocies of the modern world in perspective
|
if you read the link it was brought up
there was no need for it (it was done for effect,i throw the ball back in this case)
he is a silly old fool
if you want to see the damage this can do to a human body go to your local hospital and ask to go round a ward where inanimate objects have contacted human flesh
|
The message does not seem to have got through to quite a few Jaguar drivers ( including a friend of mine).
They seem to think it looks trendy to put them on the leading edge of the bonnet to guarantee maximum damage to anyone they hit.
