03 1.0 Could fast idle give OBD code? - jnw
My petrol Yaris has started fast idling. Once it has warmed up, it settles down at about 1100rpm. No other obvious symptoms and the engine warning light is NOT on.

Tried the following so far:

-the vacuum tube looks OK ? no perishing and securely fitted.
-car doesn?t seem to be overheating,
-water is circulating through the lead-off to the idle control unit,
-air filter looks OK
-can't see any loose sensor connections.

So beginning to run out of ideas.

Ebay has OBDll cables for under £20. Would anyone know if it is likely that a problem with the idling control would show up as an error code or are useful error codes always accompanied by the engine warning light showing?

More likely you have a problem with the idele speed stepper motor.. - mounted on the back of teh throttle body. Car Mechanics had an article March 04...

waxstat assembly used to open/close auxiliary air valve. If cooling system has been neglected, the pipe with hot coolant blocks .. and revs remain high when engine is warm..

Solution: flush cooling system with a coolant flush.. bypass pipe must be blown through... ... you may need to strip it down...

No fault code is triggered with above.

If you want. I can email you a copy of the article.
