Hi i have just got a 02 reg astra 1.4 petrol. Upon driving at 60mph today the car started to surge forward the seem to hold back, a bit like jerking. I know it is due its timing belt done very soon but just wondering weather i should look at the plugs and leads first. Also when i start the car it someitmes cuts out unless i press the acelerator pedal to boost the revs as if i dont the car just dies.

you seem to be stabbing articles in the dark for an answer
if vehicle isnt up to spec on basic serviceable articles then why not start here and then move on to a code scan if problem still exists
reminds me of that hit the monster arcade machine on margate front with the wooden hammer otherwise

I am only asking because i know that some people have had more trouble with the 1.6 versions. I knew my old focus inside out and only got this because of the bigger boot. I am gonna full service the car next week, The pionts were not a "stab" i was hoping that maybe somebody could expand as i know there has been egr problems and ecu's that cause these sort of things on other vauxhalls and was just wondering if i was better starting there. There is no lights on the car so no fault should be logged which means if i code read it i would have to see if anything comes up as its running. I did have a simular problem years ago on an old N reg Mk3 which was the plugs and leads but as this car has no HT leads i was asking about weather the coil pack would be best option. As most things on this car is ECU controlled its makes it harder to pin point with out having a code read and was just looking for some expertise for my first step. But the car next week is having oil, fuel, air filter changed for a start.
