03 3.0 Puncture warning - run-flat tyre - Andrew-T
Yesterday daughter and SiL were approaching Bicester when their Puncture warning was activated. They visited the nearest K-F centre who found no fault with any wheel (thereby claiming to have saved them loads o'money). I checked all 4 tyres when they returned here - 37psi all round.

What sensing system does BMW use, and what event might have triggered the false warning?

The tyre deflation system on these works through the abs/esp control unit.It monitors the rolling circumference of each wheel which alters as tyre pressure decreases, via the wheel speed sensors. As to what caused the w/light to come on may be a one-off glitch but if continues to be a problem then a diag test of the system may show a fault.hth

i assume that they have not had a new tyre fitted recently, i only ask as when a new tyre/tyres are fitted the "system" has to relearn the rolling radius and has to be put into this mode (as used in the vauxhall system) bmw may be different !, Regards TB

Forgot to mention that the Puncture was reported during heavy rain - might that have something to do with it? If so, it could happen quite often?

As far as I know they have a tiny transmitter in the sensor which goes to a receiver I not sure whether they have one front another in the rear. There is no simple way to test them without plugging into the diagnostic machine ,the wheel sensor is very expensive and the control unit is a visit to the bank manager.

You said heavy rain, perhaps you/her went into a big puddle and aquaplaned a little.....

Exactly. I wasn't there, so I am just relating what I was told. But if that was the cause, I would expect it to happen to lots of drivers?

And fixing any problem would be £££, by definition. SiL read the handbook and reset the indicators. Modern cars try to be too clever IMHO.
