why? Plug your usb wireless adaptor into your pc, set it up and test it. you may be suprised and save yourself the cost of buying a wireless station or a pair of "powerline" adaptors (transmit tcpip over the mains netwrok)

If he ever turned off wireless on the Orange Livebox he will have to turn it back on. Also setup some form of security on it.
Unless the distance is too great or there are thick walls in between then I'd try using that instead. Otherwise you'll need a wireless access point plugging in to the Ethernet cable that used to go to the PC.

I thought the thick walls in the line of sight would attenuate the signal too much. I suppose the best thing is to give it a try first!
How do you turn-on the wireless in the Livebox please?

If you never turned it off then it's probably on. I am sure instructions can be found on the Orange broadband support site if you look.
