97 1.8 engine wont tick over when cold - l2jpw
hope someone can help

i have got a problem with my 1.8 cabby 16 petrol engine

on cold start or if the car has been parked for several hours, when i start the engine the car will not tick over until its been driven several yards, any ideas would be appreciated??

have you tried any service items?
checked air filter?
has the car been serviced often?

when it does tick over at waht revs does it tickover. is it normal? eg 1200

hi thanks for your reply

its going in for a full service tomorrow hopefully this will sort it, the car has been regularly serviced and has only done 66k from new, when running the revs are ok on tickover, except when cold

hi everyone

could anyone give any advice with the problem i have,

the car will not tickover when started, keeps stalling when you come to a halt, it had a service this morning, and it has made no difference??

any advice will be appreciated

Most likely to be the idle speed control valve. Its on the inlet manifold between manifold and engine near the starter. You could try to remove it and clean it but usually needs replacing.
Also clean the throttle butterfly area with a little petrol on an old toothbrush and a rag.
