I think we will go back to to the Normandy beach areas in September - but when is the best time to miss all the UK and French Holidays?
We went around 23rd of September last time - but is it as quiet as that at the beginning or middle of September?
We seem to have always gone around 23rd Sept and also around 10th May - but once went another time (can`t remember when) and were swamped with screaming kids on the ferry.

UK children well back in school by then. Not sure about French but assume the same as they have the 'rentree' on 1st Sept don't they?

gives school holidays by regions, in France. I can recommend Honfleur for a side trip if you have time and/or havent been before.

Hi Armitage, Could you expand on Honfleur please. Is that near the big bridge with the steep hill heading in the Calais direction?

UK schools will all be back by about the 5th September, as will the French schools. Many years ago I went to Corsica with the then future SWMBO, in the middle two weeks of September. Very quiet, weather very good, hotels and restaurants quite pleased to see us!
The big French holiday season is from Bastille Day (14/7) to Assumption (15/8), but the Brits will be around a bit later due to the August BH.

Honfleur is a delightful, if slightly touristy. fishing port, just across a very large toll bridge over the Seine, South from Le Havre. Google for images and you will see how nice it looks.
