Motorway slip road - 1400ted
Ever since the M56 was opened, I've wondered about this particular feature.
Between the A556 and the M6 junctions, on the westbound track there is a small ' slip road ' leading up off the hard shoulder to a wooden ' farm ' type gate. There is also a slip on from this gate. In all my hundreds of trips up and down this stretch, I've never seen this gate open or in use.
The gate leads into a very minor lane, not important enough to have a bridge or a tunnel across the M way. Google satellite show nothing of importance down the lane, a couple of farms and a caravan storage site. The lane leads to another, equally minor, lane. It's not a spot where emergency vehicles would want to get on. I wonder if there is anything strategic buried in the fields which the Sat can't see !
Any other ones around ? What is it for ?
I'll have an explore on the bike one day.

It is so that the gypsies have their own motorway exit. Enshrined in English law, apparently......

There's a website dedicated to exploring little known facts about motorways.

Know the junction well. Looked at Google earth - can't figure out what you are referring to?

Please describe location assuming you are traveling north up the M6 and exiting at J19 (A556).

The HUGE ammunition storage depot just south of Gaydon to the west of the M40, was blanked from Google earth for ages.

Funny thing is that if you look at Google Earth for Israel, you can see all the airports, airfields, air bases (military etc). If you look at the local websites with satellite or aerial photos, these parts are made to look like fields (including Tel Aviv airport which has had no military function at all since last summer).

I think that the Arabs know to use Google Earth rather than the opposition's version!

Espada....You're on the wrong motorway...it's the M56 not M6.
Go due south from the village of Broomedge then eastbound on the M56 towards Manchester a few hundred yards.
Slip road is on westbound track at Lime Tree Lane

As an aside, re. the ammunition depot, We had lots of maps when I was a breakdown controller including one the size of the office wall......none of them showed Faslane !

Got it!

I spotted it this afternoon on GE, but waited for your reply to confirm same. It is curious. Maybe an afterthought when they were building the thing?
