hi my wifes 307cc 2.0hdi 136bhp 06 36000miles reqs a 3rd turbo .warrenty finished in april so i could be facing a big bill .spoke to customer service , but because we are the 2nd owner ,and last service not done at a peugeot dealer could have problem with a claim . what can i do apart from bit the bullet and have it done . or fight pug .help please
Were both previous turbo replacement jobs done under warranty at a Pug dealer? Surely the replacement parts should be warranted for at least a year, and separately from the car's overal 3-year warranty.
Have you got a receipt for the non-dealer service, and does it say what oil was used? Is it all to Pug's service specs?
Worst case you might have to pay, but go to an independent turbo specialist for the repair / rebuild.
What's the turbo problem that means it needs replacing? Failed bearings, broken turbine blade, sticking VNT ...? It's pretty hard to kill a brand-new turbo 3 times over, if the rest of the engine still works OK.
The fact it has happened twice since the first replacement seems to indicate either 1) the dealer didn't fix it right or 2) it's a mis-diagnosis. I would suggest trying to find out exactly what it wrong this time, and why the two previous turbos "failed"
hi thanks for the reply ,the original turbo failed in sept 07 . i bought all service parts and had the car serviced at jag dealer , by a friend . the car as been into peugeot this week ,and the computer reading says tubo pressure regulation turbo pressure measured to low permanent fault. the turbo was changed under warrenty before we bought the car ie sep 07 thanks kev
So if the first turbo failed in Sept 07 and was done by Pug under warranty before you bought it, is this the second turbo which is giving you problems now?
If the fault code is turbo pressure too low, yes it **could** be a fault in the turbo itself.
Or it could be the control mechanism for the variable-nozzle system sticking, failure of the vac solenoid which controls the VNT, or a simple vacuum leak that hasn't been spotted.
I would recommend you get a second opinion from an independent, possibly a diesel / turbo specialist.
Or a partially blocked PEF filter. Are you using the right oil it should have 5w/40 in it. Have you a leak in the turbo pipes or intercooler which is a common fault ?. Personaally I would look at the intercooler and pipes first.
is the turbo getting suffiencent run down time when arriving at work or home. had a client with a vovo once that had 3 in 3 years & there house was about 100 yrds off a dual carridge way, they were hammering down the carridge way & turning into the drive way & turning off one very hot turbo!hence a very short life!
Find the hoses to and from the intercooler, look for oil weeps / smears around the joints where the hoses fit. Also look for oily smears along the pipes which would indicate a hole or split.
If you can find the turbo there will be smallish rubber tubing near the unit. Then follow that tubing around, to ensure it's all connected properly.
