i am in desperate need of advice,i wonder if you could help me.my 306hdi has been pinking in low gears,has trouble starting and has a strange noise coming from the fuel filter housing like air.but there is no leaks of any fuel that i can see.when it starts it shakes and a bit of blue smoke comes out the exhaust,does anyone know what this could be.it seems to drive ok on the motorway but at low revs it sound like a car pulling away in third gear,it sounds like its not getting enough revs in the low gears,the turbo seems ok.but im unsure as to what this could be,please please help me,many thanks jason

my 2001 306hdi peugoet is chucking out blue diesel smoke and missing when i start it up,it is pinking in low gears,yet drives ok on the motorway,you can here a cam or bottom end noise when in 1st,2nd and 3rd gears which ive been advised is because the revs are not there due to the fuel problem.could someone please advise me.ive been told it could be several things but i could replace lots of things and it could just be one simple thing,please help me,many thanks jason
{Both questions merged together. Thanks for providing the year and engine cc this time}

Hi,
Are you sure the smoke is blue? Diesel smoke is white, blue is usually oil. On HDi's it could be a whole lot of different things, knackered injectors, injector pump, etc. My best advice would be not to waste time and money and take it to a Bosch specialist. They have the equipment and skill to deal with such a complex engine. Don't waste time with a dealership.

Chatty, you may have knackered the fuel system - see the Discussion thread 'Putting a load of petrol into a diesel...'. Hope not though.

andrew t,i dont know much about cars,i probably did 30 miles with the petrol,i had a quarter of a tank of diesel and have been told that would have sunk to the bottom of the tank ,when i realised i emptied the complete tank of the unleaded and threw it away,i then put a new fuel filter on and filled the car to the brim and added a redex advanced to the tank.ive since done 200 miles and the car is running as good as new,hopefully that is the end of the problem,if i have done any damage please let me know what i could have done longterm.its seems fine though,thanks chatty

Chatty, I don't know a lot either, but I have been following Adam's Discussion thread (A lot of petrol into a diesel..) over the last couple of weeks, with some dire tales. If your car seems fine there may be nothing to worry about. But read that thread and see what you think.

"have been told that would have sunk to the bottom of the tank"
Not true, Chatty. It mixes and becomes a diesel petrol mix straight away.
Have a search on the forum for misfueling threads - it`s all there.
Thirty miles on 3 parts petrol to one part diesel?

"Thirty miles on 3 parts petrol to one part diesel"
It's unlikely to do much for the longevity of the HP pump....
I hope that "chucking it away" (the petrol/diesel mix) involved something more socially responsible pouring it down the drain.....
|
of course ,i took it to the local garage and he put it in a drum to be used later for cleaning things

ive done 400 miles since running my 306 hdi on unleaded,drained the tank,put redex advanced in,filled up with diesel and i have had no problems what so ever,the car drives as it always has even after driving at least 30 miles with unleaded,touch wood ive got away with any long term problems as things seem to be 100%,just hope 6 months down the line i can say this.
