When the air conditioning is switched on in an older version of a Fusion (2003) the engine cooling fan does not immediately switch on at any time of the year and run continuously until the air conditioning is switched off. The older Fusion engine cooling fan very rarely switches on automatically due to weather conditions when the air conditioning is switched off or is on.
This is unlike a later version Fusion (2005) which has the engine cooling fan running continuously whenever the air conditioning is switched on and at any time of the year/weather condition.
The 2005 Fusion engine cooling fan normally only switches on if the weather is hot when the air conditioning is switched off.

Probably both are working correctly.The later car uses a different cooling fan arangement that is electronically controlled for variable speed,whereas the earlier car would have only 2 speeds.hth
