Daewoo bus ? - 1400ted

Watched an episode of Emmerdale tonight, ( it's the only fresh air I get now ! )

A brief scene showed the village bus arriving. It seemed to have a Daewoo grille on the front.

I know Navistar are developing new diesel engines for Daewoo 5 ton and 5.5 ton buses for use in Korea but are they actually running in servicec in the UK, perhaps under the Chrysler badge ?

BB Looked exactly the same as a Daewoo car grille...quite distinctive.
Seemed to be in brand new condition although I didn't notice the reg.
Will keep a look out for it in future episodes.
My son knows some of the actors but I doubt they would have 'clocked' it !

I've seen several Daewoo pick-up trucks around, so it wouldn't be beyond the bounds of reason for them to make buses as well.

How long before the damn things get called "Chevys" like the cars though? >:<

Asian "Chevy" cars I can just about tolerate (although I would never buy one) but an Asian "Chevy" pick-up truck?

No way Jose!

Daewoo do make buses, you see them running around the streets of Seoul, but I don't think they export them to Europe. As far as I know the Daewoo bus and pickup truck businesses were not sold to General Motors along with the car business.

Also I doubt they would comply to the very strict emission and accessibility regulations. That said they could have just been a Daweoo chasis with a standard engine (say from Cummins) and a British built body.

Could it have been a Caetano? The logo looks a bit similar from a distance, specially on the smaller models.

Have a look at the Optimo - would that be it?

Had a look at the Caetano pics....I don't think so.

Bus on the telly had a definate Daewoo radiator grille, as fitted to the cars, in chrome.

A mystery indeed.

I can't remember the name of the company off the top of my head but there is one who builds 32 seater midi coaches based on a Mercedes chassis and they have a grill assembly almost identical to the daewoo one.

Daewoo are a significant worldwide producer of commercial vehicles so it isn't entirely surprising that a few have made it to these shores.

Rattle, your comments puzzle me. Why on earth would a multinational's product fail the European emissions regs? These buses can be seen in Japan, where the rules are very strict indeed. I wish people would give this arrogant "UK legislation is the best in the world" piece a rest occasionally.

Probably something built by Wrightbus. Grilles are quite similar to Daewoo. Lots of them on UK roads. tinyurl.com/m28w7d

Bus makes its appearance at 9:29... and it says Reliance on the front.

Interesting....I thought it was a chrome grille...obviously not so.

Looked like a Wrightbus, comparing the two.
