Ghia X with new proper size Varta Battery.
No sign of any problems but came out today to a totally flat battery.
Not even an internal light. Meter on the terminals confirms it is flat.
Lights were not left on. Cause at this point unknown.
Connected up a battery charger and quite a deep humming immediately started.
Seems to be the electric motor under the drivers seat.
Pressing the buttons on the seat stops it.
No sign of the circuit / fuse in the Haynes manual.
Can anyone tell me which fuse I need to pull?
I am going to try unplugging the connector under the seat.
Any suggestions on fixing it.
The joys of having all the bells and whistles :-)

Sorry about the delay, Henry, just spotted your question.
I've just had a look in the original 'Owner's Guide for my late '97 Mondeo 2l Ghia (not Ghia X) and it says that fuse 28 in the fuse and relay box (below instrument panel) is the one for 'electric seats'. It's 30A - light green.
According to the guide, the fuse for 'heated seats' is in the engine compartment fuse box.
Dunno if that's of any help. Good luck!

Did you manage to sort this, Henry?

Thanks for your nudge ref the Owners guide.
I went for the Haynes and switched off re the OG.
Ist effort ( prior to your info) was severely hampered as the seat base was in the fully back state so I could barely see underneath.
I disconnected a couple of loose yellow connectors ( which I now suspect are heaters) with no success.
I decided to disconnect the battery and put some charge in it. I reconnected it and was then able to power the seat forwards but instead of the load hum there was what sounded like a relay clicking in the dash under the steering wheel.
I again disconncted the battery and left it on charge so that is now full.
( surprised how long it took to full charge from flat)
Due to other SWMBO & ofspring duties I am only just back on the case.
I have found the fuse as described.
I have also now got a view of just how many plugs are under the seat :-)
I will explore some more.
I am thinking that if I can get the seat back to "normal" position I will pull the plug and reluctantly let the experts loose on it.
Just the job on a sunny Sunday!

Sunday update.
One of the switches on the side of the seat has been damaged.
I have managed to get the ""switch box" unscrewed using a little ratchet right angled head to get at the screws holding it to back of the side seat shroud.
Fortunately the screws were not very tight.
Unfortunately this expensive looking box ( lots of micro switches in it) does not appear to have a plug for the large number of wires going into it. The bunch of cables appear to be clamped.
I will enquire of the spares dept and get a look at the Ford images but I think I will finish up living without a couple of seat adjustments.
I am now thinking that the switch may have got damaged when the drivers door very recently deadlocked itself and somehow the door was accessed to fix the fault.
At least there are no funny noises and no smell of smoke.
