Has anybody managed to remove the head unit for this cd system? It has developed an intermittent loss of sound to one or both channels. Almost certainly a connector because radio is fine. It's OK first thing but fault develops after a couple of hours

Yes! I installed a hands free kit.
You need to remove the centre console cupholder thingy first by sliding both hands down the hinge side of the console gripping it and pulling up! It should come out reasonably easily. Remove the gear knob, and the console around the knob should pull away quite easily. Not too hard though as you need to disconnect the light and cigarette lighter connectors. There are 2 screws at the base of the centre part of the dashboard which you need to remove. Pull down the glovebox completely and you should see an M10 bolt which fixes the multichanger to the cars frame. Remove this and the whole centre of the dash (including the Bose unit) should now be able to be pulled away from the dash.
I would say that if it's failing after time it's possibly a dry joint or failing amplifier....loose connections are always there...not just when the kit heats up. You will also need to check the amplifier under the driver's seat as well!

Thanks for the tips, Pat. It's definitely in the head unit because you can sometimes make the sound return by pushing it. Also the radio is unaffected, so it can't be amp-speaker connections.
